2024 High School Trades Scholarship Application Copy
This $1,000 scholarship assists students who enroll in a training program, with the desire to learn a useful skill set that will launch them into the workforce and provide a viable income and secure future.
Eligible areas of vocational training include the construction trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC technician), as well as the culinary arts, cosmetology, automotive technology, agriculture, landscaping, medical, and other certifications from an accredited institution or program.
Eligibility:
You must be a 2024 graduating high school senior.
You must have maintained 90% or higher attendance during your high school career.
You must plan to enroll in an eligible trade program that leads to "certification” within one year of graduation.
You must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher during your high school career.
You or your Legal Guardian must be an employee of an active member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce.
Supporting Documents:
Official Grade Transcript: Please include an official transcript from your high school that reflects a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Official Attendance Record: Please include a record of attendance indicating the percentage of days you attended school. If this falls below 90 percent, explain in writing the extenuating circumstances for your absences.
Two 1-page Letters of Reference: Letters from teachers, employers or others (no relatives) should provide information the selection committee may use to better understand your character.
Essay:
Write an essay in 500 words or less explaining the career you plan to pursue and why you are applying for this scholarship. On a separate page, include any special circumstances you wish the scholarship committee to consider.
Selection Process:
Chamber representatives will review applications and interview the top candidates to select the scholarship winners as well as a first alternate..
Payment:
Student must provide documentation of enrollment details to The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce. The scholarship will then be paid directly to the program you plan to attend (a two-year college, trade school, union apprenticeship, etc.). Funds may be used for classes, tuition, books and student fees. Scholarship checks will not be provided directly to the student or family.
